BEACHES IN CANTABRIA
THESE ARE THE BEACHES IN CANTABRIA NEAR THE CINCO CALDERAS
These are the beaches we continue to recommend, even though they’re no longer a secret.
In this part of the coast, the beaches vary greatly, even those just a few minutes apart. Some are wide and comfortable; others require descending a cliff or walking a bit further. There are family-friendly beaches, wild beaches, beaches perfect for surfing, or beaches simply for sitting by the sea doing nothing.
The best part is that you don’t have to choose just one: from La Casona, they’re all very close. Wild, tranquil, surprising. Just a few minutes away, the sea.
GALIZANO BEACH
6 minutes by car from Las Cinco Calderas
Quiet, family-friendly, and easy to enjoy. Galizano Beach combines sand, small rocky areas, and an open landscape that changes dramatically with the tides. It has a beach bar, showers, parking, and easy access, making it one of the most convenient beaches in the area for spending the day. It’s perfect for walking, playing among the rocks, finding natural hiding places, or simply relaxing in the afternoon. A beach that holds a special place in the hearts of those who have been spending their summers here for years and continue to return every year.
LANGRE BEACH
8 minutes by car from Las Cinco Calderas
Wild, open to the Cantabrian Sea, and with a sense of disconnection that’s increasingly hard to find. Getting there isn’t as easy as other beaches, and perhaps that’s why it still retains something special.
Surrounded by cornfields and cliffs through which the Northern Way of St. James passes, Langre appears suddenly, immense, at the very bottom.
Mobile phone coverage is easily lost here. Another advantage. Very popular with surfers, perfect for walking or simply sitting by the sea.
At one end, there’s also an area frequented by naturists.
The views from the cliff, especially at sunset, are unforgettable.
Loredo, Somo and El Puntal Beach
12 minutes by car from Las Cinco Calderas
An immense beach where the seaside promenade seems to go on forever. From Loredo to the end of El Puntal, there are nearly 8 continuous kilometers of sand facing the Bay of Santander. Each access point has its own atmosphere: Loredo, Latas, Somo, or El Puntal.
There are quieter areas, livelier ones, spots for families, surfers, those who just want to stroll, or those who prefer to lie back from it all. There always seems to be room for everyone here. Surf schools are a natural part of the landscape and make this beach one of the great landmarks in the north for beginners or those who want to improve their surfing skills.
At the end of El Puntal, there is also a dog-friendly beach, perfect for those traveling with their dog and wanting to enjoy time with their pet without restrictions.
